Rotating shift calendar

About this calendar

Pick your rotation (14 on/14 off, 7/7, 4/4, DuPont, Pitman or your own pattern), tell it when one block starts, and see every shift by month or for the whole year. Download it to your phone's calendar or print it. Planning aid only: your employer's official schedule always wins, and nothing you enter leaves this device.

How to set up your calendar

  1. Choose a schedule. The pattern box shows the repeating cycle: D is a day shift, S a swing shift, N a night shift and - a day off.
  2. On your first visit, three quick questions set everything up. Enter the date your current run of shifts started (or tap a day on the calendar and choose My run starts here). Every other date follows from that one date, so the calendar does not drift over the years. To change anything later, tap Edit schedule.
  3. Enter shift start times, shift length and unpaid break.
  4. Swap shifts with a coworker or take leave? Tap the day, then Mark off. Picked up overtime? Tap a day and choose Add shift or Add extra.
  5. Tap Share schedule to make a calendar file (.ics) for Google, Apple or Outlook calendars, a picture, a PDF, or to print a fridge copy.

14/14, 7/7, 4/4 and Pitman can also alternate day and night blocks (for example DDDD----NNNN----): turn on the switch under Edit schedule. For anything else, draw your rotation on the calendar. With 12-hour shifts, 3.5 shifts a week is an average of 42 hours. That does not mean 42 hours every week: some weeks are much longer and some shorter, which matters for overtime. See the guide to rotating shift patterns and the pay calculator.

Questions

Does it work offline or need an account?

No account is needed, and yes, it works offline after your first visit. Everything runs in your browser. Your settings are saved in your browser's local storage on this device only.

Will the calendar match my crew's?

It will if the pattern and the anchor date match. Crew rotations such as DuPont are offset between crews, so each crew uses the same pattern with a different anchor date.

What happens when clocks change?

You choose whether an overnight shift keeps its length or ends at the scheduled clock time. The calendar file stores exact moments in time, so it shows the right local time in any calendar app.
