About Hitchday

Hitchday is a free calendar and pay estimator for people who work rotating shifts: 14 on/14 off hitches, 7/7, 4/4, DuPont, Pitman and crews that switch between day and night blocks. It is a small independent project, built because ordinary calendars and pay calculators assume a Monday-to-Friday job.

What it does

How the estimates are checked

The pay calculations are compared against a separate implementation written in another programming language, on randomized schedules that include clock changes and overnight shifts. The state tax estimates are checked the same way, for every state, filing status and pay frequency. Hundreds of automated tests use answers worked out by hand. The rules and their limits are written down on the assumptions page.

Checks like these show the calculator does what it says. They cannot show that your employer, union contract or state follows the same rules, so your pay stub and your employer's payroll records always decide.

Your data stays on your device

There are no accounts. Your rotation, pay rate and tax settings are saved in your own browser and never sent to Hitchday. The site works offline after your first visit. Details are in the privacy policy.

Free to use

Hitchday is free. To cover running costs, guide pages may show clearly labeled advertising in the future; if that happens, the privacy policy will be updated first to say which provider is used and how to opt out.

Contact

Questions, a schedule pattern Hitchday does not handle, or a calculation you think is wrong: email support@hitchday.com. It helps to include your rotation, pay period and workweek start, but please do not send pay stubs, Social Security numbers or other personal documents.

Names used on this site

Schedule names such as DuPont and Pitman are the common industry names for these rotations, and calendar apps such as Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook are named only to say what the calendar files work with. Their owners do not sponsor or endorse Hitchday. Hitchday is not affiliated with any employer, union or government agency, and it is not payroll, tax, accounting or legal advice.
