Privacy policy
Last updated: .
The short version
- You do not need an account, and the site does not ask for your name, email, employer, pay stubs or bank details.
- The schedules, pay rates and dates you enter are processed in your browser and saved in your browser's local storage on your device. They are not sent to Hitchday or anyone else.
- The site has no server-side database and no user profiles.
What is stored on your device
To remember your settings, Hitchday saves one item in your browser's local storage, named hitchday:v1: rotation, shift times, hourly rate, pay settings, take-home settings (filing status, deductions, 401(k) percentages, reimbursements, expenses), days off, extra shifts and holidays. It also saves a copy of the app itself (pages, scripts, icons; no personal data) so it opens without a connection. It sets no cookies.
- Kept until you remove it. The data stays on this device until you erase it, clear the site's data, or your browser clears it. It is not backed up and not synced between devices.
- Safari and the seven-day rule. Safari in a normal tab can delete a site's stored data after about seven days without a visit. An installed Home Screen app is treated separately. Installing it, or using "Ask the browser to keep my data", reduces the risk. Save a backup if the data matters.
- Not encrypted. Anyone who can unlock your device and open this browser profile can read the data. A backup file you save is also plain text; keep it private.
- Controls. More, then Data and privacy lets you save a backup file, import one (checked before anything is replaced), copy a schedule-only link, remove the offline copy, and erase everything.
Sharing
A schedule link contains only the rotation, start date, shift times, length and time zone (and days off and extra shifts if you tick that box). It never contains pay, tax, deduction or expense information. The data sits after the # in the address, which your browser does not send to the website. The other person is asked before anything changes.
Share schedule on the calendar can also make a picture (PNG), a calendar file (.ics) or a printable PDF of the dates you choose. They are made in your browser and show only shift names and start and end times. They never include pay, hours paid, taxes, deductions, reimbursements or budget entries, and they include no name or note unless you type one for that file.
What the site itself collects
When you load a page, the web host (Hostinger) receives your IP address and request details as any web server does, and may keep standard technical logs. Hitchday does not receive your calculator inputs.
Hitchday does not use analytics. Page addresses never contain wages, rates or other financial values. There are no advertising scripts or trackers on the site at the time of writing. If advertising or analytics is added, this policy will be updated first to name the provider, the cookies or identifiers it uses, and how to opt out.
Files you download
Calendar (.ics) files, schedule pictures and PDFs are created in your browser and saved to your device. They contain only the shift dates and times you chose to export.
Export diagnostic report (More, then Data and privacy) makes a file for checking Hitchday's calculations independently. The default, redacted report holds your schedule, workweeks and hours but no pay rate, deductions or dollar amounts. The full financial diagnostic is a separate choice with a warning: it contains your pay rate, deductions, 401(k) choices, reimbursements and any labels you typed, in plain text that is not encrypted. Neither report includes expenses or budget entries, and Hitchday never sends a report anywhere; it is saved only if you press the download button.
Third-party links
Pages link to government and legal reference sites. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
Children
The site is a general-audience planning tool and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
