Install Hitchday on your phone
Hitchday runs in your web browser, and you can also add it to your Home Screen so it opens like an app, full screen and without the browser's address bar. Nothing is downloaded from an app store and there is no account to create. Once it has been opened, it also works without a connection.
Install it from the calendar's own address, app.hitchday.com: open the shift calendar, then follow the steps for your device.
iPhone and iPad
- Open app.hitchday.com in Safari.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up). On iPhone it is at the bottom of the screen; on iPad, at the top.
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
Open Hitchday from the new icon from then on. Safari can delete a website's saved data after about seven days without a visit; an app added to the Home Screen is kept separately, which makes it the safer choice on iPhone.
Android
- Open app.hitchday.com in Chrome.
- If Chrome shows an Install prompt, tap it. Otherwise tap the menu (three dots, top right) and choose Add to Home screen or Install app.
- Confirm with Install.
Inside Hitchday, More, then Data and privacy also shows an Install Hitchday button whenever your browser offers one.
Computer
- Chrome or Edge (Windows, Mac, ChromeOS): open app.hitchday.com and click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install Hitchday (in Edge: Apps, then Install this site as an app).
- Safari on a Mac: open app.hitchday.com, then choose File, then Add to Dock (macOS Sonoma or later).
- Firefox: keep app.hitchday.com as a bookmark; it works the same in a normal tab.
Your data stays on that device
Your rotation, pay rate and tax settings are saved in the browser on the device where you enter them. They are not sent to Hitchday and they do not sync. That means:
- Your phone and your computer each have their own copy. Setting up one does not set up the other.
- An installed app and the same browser can have separate storage (especially on iPhone), so set up the copy you actually use.
- Clearing your browser's data, deleting the Home Screen app or changing phones removes the settings.
Save a backup file
In Hitchday, open More, then Data and privacy, and tap Save a backup file. Keep the file somewhere you trust: it holds your pay settings in plain text. To move to a new phone or another device, open Hitchday there, go to the same place and choose Import a backup file. Save a fresh backup after you change your settings.
